MTA to Voters: get behind your tax-fighting delegates today!
Sadly the Maryland Governor Seems at a Loss about Tax 'Reality.'
Pro-jobs Delegates Slate Tuesday Morning Press Conference in Annapolis.

BALTIMORE, MD (March 22, 2003) - - - The Maryland Taxpayers Association, Inc. today urged all Maryland voters personally to thank members of the House of Delegates who stood firm this week against tax hikes including proposed increases in property and business taxes.

The Association asked voters to email or phone support to House Republican Leader Al Redmer and freshman Delegate Herb McMillan, chair of the Taxpayer Protection Caucus, for putting together and keeping together a strong anti-tax team in the House of Delegates.

MTA was saddened to read in today's Washington Times this quote from our governor whose election last November had seemed to bring such hope for cleaning up the mess in Annapolis.

"The governor, who met with editors and reporters at The Washington Times on Thursday, said he was confident fellow Republicans in the legislature would support him in the end on the property-tax increase.'One point I have made to Republicans from Day One is being in the minority is the easiest thing. ... Now Republicans are part of the government and you have to deal with reality,' Mr. Ehrlich said."

MTA suggests that Mr. Ehrlich consult with governors (and Taxpayer Protection Pledge signers) like Bill Owens of Colorado and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota - - - as well as with the White House - - - on the unreality of raising taxes.

Today's reality is no longer the old Maryland tax, spend, and elect. The new reality is no new taxes and a sensible program for reducing them over the long haul.

Tax-fighting delegates will hold a press conference Tuesday at 9:30 AM in Annapolis at Lawyer's Mall. Every believer in jobs and prosperity in Maryland should come to send a message to the Annapolis Establishment: easy government growth and tax hikes are no longer fashionable in Maryland. In fact, they are downright unreal.

The Maryland Taxpayers Association, Inc. opposes any Maryland tax increases including any hike in gasoline taxes.
